Since 2014, Doug Munroe has retired from his nursery and his landscaping business to devote his attention to his family, commercial maple syrup production, gardening, painting, writing, rock sculpture, managing a couple of trout ponds, and volunteering at the Florence Thomas Art School in West Jefferson.

Doug has authored two books, published by McFarland Publishers in Jefferson, NC: The Trees of Ashe County, North Carolina and Painters and Their Paintings, Ashe County, North Carolina. Both are available on Amazon or at the Ashe County Arts Council, the Ashe County History Museum, and the Florence Thomas Art School.
